Baseball - Sal Gruttadauria

16  x 20 canvas.  I really like the simplicity of a single object. In many ways, I find it more challenging to paint as there are no distractions to take your eye off of the errors.  Great instructions on the DVD, Hall.

Hello Sal,
Your painting of the baseball is terrific! The sense of mood, atmosphere, form and light, all work together well. I also enjoy the sense of depth you have achieved.

On future ones you may consider softening the threads as they progress around the ball into the lower value areas. The threads may be slightly overstated. Also, the form could be even more impactful if you lost the edge of the ball in a few areas on the shadow side -- basically merging the edge of the ball into the negative space so the edge disappears.

Overall, with respect to applying my theories, this is your strongest piece to date. Your treatment within the negative space is very subtle.
